For those of you in Chicago, you know the weather has been a bit indecisive lately. We had a couple weeks of “transitioning to fall” weather, and then shot back up to 80-90 degree weather for summer round two. I’m not complaining, a Florida girl through and through, I thrive in warm weather – I live for summer staple pieces like dresses (both maxis and short) and my body just feels all around better when I’m warm vs. cold. Being in Chicago for over six years, I’m starting to come around to other seasons, well mostly spring and fall – winter, not so much! But I’m definitely getting on board with booties, boots, and comfy layers that don’t make me sweat.

Until we officially hit crisp fall temps and a full wardrobe change, it can be difficult for some to know how to dress when it’s cool in the morning and evenings and a bit warmer in the afternoons. Enter my fave must-have piece – the leather jacket. A leather jacket should be a staple in your wardrobe – it’s the perfect piece to throw on in the morning over a summer dress or jeans and a tank allowing you to have the best of both seasons. It keeps you cool in the mornings/evenings and you can leave it at home or the office if you’re going out around lunch time. Not to mention, whenever I wear a leather jacket, especially this moto one, I feel a bit more like a BA. I love combining the edginess of a leather jacket with something a bit more feminine like lace or the leopard pattern here. This faux leather moto jacket is one of my faves as seen in this previous post. I love how it looks with my all-time favorite summer leopard maxi that I got years ago at a boutique in Gainesville! Most maxis are a bit longer on me and I usually need to tie them up or get them hemmed, but this one fit perfectly!

So, whether you purchase a more affordable faux piece or splurge on a real leather while gallivanting around Florence (yep, I’m talking about myself!), a leather jacket is definitely a staple you should have in your closet. This Topshop jacket is TTS, but the sleeves are a bit long for petites. You could always have them hemmed up, but I prefer unzipping the sides and pulling the sleeves up.

I fully intend on enjoying the last few days of summer! Any plans for you before the temps drop? Do you have a jacket (leather or not) that’s perfect for transition weather?
